Position: Mental Health Social Practitioner
Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Organization Overview: Austin Clubhouse is a local nonprofit providing evidence-based, peer-supported mental health recovery services to adults with mental health diagnoses. Accredited by Clubhouse International, we adhere to the Standards for Clubhouse Programs, a non-clinical model of recovery founded in 1948. Austin Clubhouse offers onsite opportunities for adults to develop meaningful relationships, engage in meaningful work, and connect to resources that promote recovery and greater self-efficacy.
Position Summary: The Social Practitioner leads daily activities and projects at Austin Clubhouse, working side-by-side with members (Clubhouse program participants). This role requires a compassionate and high-energy individual who can engage and motivate members, fostering a joyful and collaborative environment. The Social Practitioner ensures members are actively involved in completing tasks, such as kitchen and snack bar operations, vegetable gardening, and community outreach, while linking them to community resources and promoting whole health and wellness concepts.
Work Environment: Our workspace is shared and communal, promoting teamwork and open communication. We also conduct outreach in the community, including home visits, employment development, and social outings.
Job Responsibilities:
Engage members in Clubhouse work, including meal preparation, gardening, and making outreach calls to maintain connections.
Work with members to prepare lunch for 20+ people daily, organizing tasks, providing cooking support, managing food and supply inventory, and maintaining cleanliness.
Co-facilitate daily meetings with members and staff to organize work projects and foster a creative atmosphere.
Collaborate on creative multimedia projects (videos, newsletters, flyers) that encourage self-expression and teamwork.
Perform data entry, track outcomes, and complete program reports alongside members.
Promote whole health and wellness concepts at the Clubhouse and take the initiative in goal-setting with members, connecting them to community resources as needed (i.e., employment, education, housing).
Ensure compliance with the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs and develop and maintain community partnerships.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required based on experience.
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly individuals with mental health diagnoses.
Familiarity with Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Office.
Ability to work one evening a month, one Saturday a quarter, and three holidays a year.
Proficiency in Spanish and/or ASL is a plus.
A relatable personality with lived experience in mental health recovery is highly valued.
Compensation:
$22/hour
