Membership is free, voluntary, and lifelong

Austin Clubhouse offers a supportive community for adults with mental health diagnoses to pursue their personal goals.

Membership is open to any adult in the Austin area with a primary diagnosis of a mental health condition, such as major depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder or schizophrenia. There are no membership dues or fees, and as a member you can retain your membership for as long as you like.

If you are an adult with a mental health diagnosis, we are here to:

  • Offer a structured work‑ordered day, where members and staff work side‑by‑side in roles such as clerical support, food service, and clubhouse administration

  • Empower members to regain a sense of purpose and confidence through meaningful participation in the work of the Clubhouse

  • Build a sense of community and belonging through shared responsibility, mutual respect, and social connection

  • Offer a range of supportive services in employment, education, housing, and whole health and wellness

  • Facilitate employment support through Transitional, Supported, and Independent Employment opportunities that help members prepare for, obtain, and maintain meaningful work in the community

  • Offer education assistance, helping members access coursework, tutoring, and supported learning opportunities

  • Provide housing advocacy and support, assisting members in securing and sustaining safe, affordable living situations

  • Connect members to additional vital resources in our community to support recovery and stability

  • Offer a nutritious and affordable lunch each weekday

  • Offer weekly social opportunities during evening, weekend, and holiday gatherings to foster connection and reduce isolation.

How it works

People at the Clubhouse are referred to as “members” instead of clients, patients, or consumers. We focus on a person’s strengths, versus their diagnosis or their disabilities. Members have equal access to every Clubhouse opportunity with no differentiation based on diagnosis or level of functioning.

Members volunteer their time in various units and find purpose in participating in the meaningful work of the Clubhouse. By working side-by-side with staff, meaningful relationships are developed, and it is through these meaningful relationships and meaningful work that members build skills, develop a sense of purpose and re-enter the community as co-workers, neighbors, and friends.
