Areas of Support

Austin Clubhouse believes that all members can achieve optimum mental health when they are empowered and equipped to pursue their potential.

We provide support to our members in all aspects of their lives through goal planning, advocacy, logistical aid, and resource awareness.

Some areas of support include…

  • Employment is the number one stated goal of Clubhouse members. Whether they are seeking to return to work or find work for the first time, employment can be an important step on the path to recovery. Austin Clubhouse meets members where they are to provide varying levels of support that help members find and keep jobs of their choosing in the community. Our employment programs range from the highly structured support of our Transitional Employment program to the less intensive assistance of Supported Employment and Independent Employment. Wherever a member is in their journey, we can help them engage in meaningful work that provides structure, fulfillment, and the knowledge that they matter.

  • Everyone needs a safe place to live, and people with mental health diagnoses often face significant housing obstacles. Austin Clubhouse works closely with area housing organizations to help members obtain and keep safe, decent, and affordable housing, whether a member needs emergency shelter or permanent housing. We support members with logistics such as identifying housing options, completing rental applications, and finding waitlist openings. Our housing support services are for everyone experiencing mental health issues, and we take special care to advocate for those who struggle with homelessness, poor rental history, bad credit, criminal records, disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and other housing barriers.

  • Like many people, Austin Clubhouse members dream of self-improvement through education. Some wish to learn a trade. Others want to work in business, health or law. Some are interested in completing an education that they began decades earlier, before they became ill. We help members those dreams a reality by helping people identify educational goals, negotiate admissions, apply for financial aid, and obtain the peer support and tutoring they need to succeed in school.

  • Study after study has shown that physical and mental wellness are inextricably linked, which is why we place great emphasis on our Whole Health & Wellness Program, focused on four main areas: nutrition, knowledge about addiction, physical fitness, and better integration with community health resources. Through this program, members receive the help they need to improve their nutrition and fitness, find support and resources to deal with addiction, and discover low cost access to fitness and recreational facilities in our area. In partnership with the University of Texas College of Pharmacy, pharmacy students conduct monthly wellness presentations at the Clubhouse on topics such as stress reduction and medication management.
